Troubleshooting Monaire Gateway Disconnected

Troubleshooting Monaire Gateway Disconnected

MONAIRE Knowledge Base For Facility Teams & Technicians

What does the "Gateway Disconnected" alert mean?

  • Cause: The Monaire Gateway has lost power or network connectivity, pausing telemetry data transmission for building equipment.
  • Data Telemetry: Historical sensor readings before the Monaire gateway went offline remain available, but real-time portal updates are temporarily paused.
  • Equipment Protection: Local thermostat scheduling and physical HVAC controls continue running independently on-site.
💡 This only pauses site-wide remote telemetry and control of HVAC units, but physical HVAC/R units remain operational under local thermostat control.

Gateway Hardware Troubleshooting Steps

Execute these steps in order before dispatching to a technician:

1

Check Power Cord & Outlet Connection

Locate the Monaire Gateway device in your facility and verify that its power adapter is securely plugged into both the wall outlet and the gateway unit itself.

• If loose or accidentally unplugged: Firmly plug the power adapter back into the wall outlet. Wait 3–5 minutes for the gateway to boot and reconnect.
• If securely plugged in: Proceed to Step 2 to check the LED indicator light.
2

Check LED Status Light & Reset Gateway

Observe the LED indicator lights on the front panel of the gateway device:

  • Blinking RED Light: Unplug the gateway power cord from the wall outlet, wait 15 seconds, then plug it back in to perform a hard reset.
  • No Light: The unit is receiving no power. Proceed to Step 3 to test the electrical outlet.
  • Solid Blue, Green, and Red Lights: When the gateway displays solid lights across these indicators, the device has booted and should be fully online and connected to the Internet.
💡 Connectivity Check: To verify that the gateway is broadcasting an active Internet connection, try connecting your mobile phone to the Monaire WiFi network (Password: Monaire23!) and open any web page in your browser — remember to disconnect your phone from the Monaire Wifi after testing.
3

Check Building Power & Gateway Placement

If the gateway remains unpowered or disconnected, verify facility electrical power and ensure proper device placement:

  • Test the Outlet: Plug another device (such as a phone charger or lamp) into the same outlet to confirm power is present.
  • Check GFCI / Breakers: Ensure the outlet's GFCI reset button is not tripped and the corresponding electrical breaker panel switch is turned ON.
  • Check Switched Outlets: Ensure the outlet is not connected to a wall light switch that was accidentally turned off.
📡 Optimal Placement & Signal Interference: Ensure the gateway is positioned in an area with strong cellular reception (near windows or open spaces rather than inside deep basements, metal electrical closets, or server racks). Keep the gateway away from high-powered electrical machinery, microwave units, and large metal enclosures, as electromagnetic interference can disrupt the cellular and wireless signal.
4

Confirm Online Status & Thermostat Connection

After power cycling or reconnecting the gateway, wait 3 to 5 minutes for internal systems to boot up and establish connection.

Thermostat Wi-Fi & HVAC Sensor Network Checks:
  • Check Thermostat Wi-Fi: Ensure all facility thermostats are connected to the Monaire WiFi network.
  • Temporary Local Wi-Fi Fallback: If the gateway cannot be reconnected right away, you can temporarily connect your thermostat to your facility's local building Wi-Fi. This restores thermostat setpoint controls and ambient room temperature monitoring and control at the Monaire app.
  • Why Gateway Reconnection is Still Essential: Local building Wi-Fi only connects the thermostat interface. Critical rooftop HVAC diagnostic equipment sensors (such as supply/return air probes and refrigeration sensors) communicate over a dedicated wireless connection (Lorawan) exclusively with the Monaire Gateway.
⚡ Because deep HVAC equipment health monitoring depends entirely on the gateway, the gateway itself must be brought back online. If self-troubleshooting fails, approve the Work Order in Step 5 so a technician can resolve the connection.

Still Offline? Call Monaire Customer Support (339) 666-2473

For Customer: If you completed steps 1 through 4 and the unit remains disconnected, follow these steps before contacting Monaire Customer Support at (339) 666-2473:

  1. Check at the Monaire Customer app if a Work Order for a Gateway Disconnected was issued by Monaire.
  2. If it exists: Approve it so a technician can take a look.
  3. If it does not exist: Issue your own Work Order or contact a supervisor with access to create one.
⚠️ Electrical Safety Warning: Do not attempt to open the gateway casing or rewire electrical outlets. If the outlet lacks power or main electrical panels are tripped, consult a certified facility electrician.
